Setting up the accountant portal
The Accounted accountant portal gives you a centralised view of all your clients who use Accounted, letting you review their books, approve submissions, and collaborate efficiently — all from one dashboard.
Getting started
To set up your accountant portal:
- Register as an accountant — Visit accounted.app/for-accountants and click "Get Started". Select your practice plan during registration.
- Verify your practice — Enter your firm's details, including your practice name, registered address, and your professional body membership (ICAEW, ACCA, CIMA, AAT, or equivalent). We verify this to ensure only qualified professionals access client data.
- Set up your profile — Add your firm's logo, contact details, and a brief description. Your clients will see this when they're asked to grant you access.
- Invite your team — If you have colleagues who need access, invite them from Settings > Team. Each team member gets their own login with configurable access levels.
Inviting clients
There are two ways to connect with clients:
You invite them:
- Go to Clients > Invite Client in your portal.
- Enter the client's name and email address.
- They'll receive an email invitation to grant your firm access to their Accounted data.
- Once they accept, their account appears in your client list.
They invite you:
- Your client goes to Settings > Accountant in their Accounted dashboard.
- They enter your firm's email address or unique practice code.
- You'll receive a notification to accept the connection.
- Once you accept, their account appears in your client list.
The dashboard overview
Your accountant portal dashboard provides an at-a-glance view of your entire client base:
- Action required — Clients with transactions awaiting review, upcoming deadlines, or submissions needing your approval. These are sorted by urgency.
- Upcoming deadlines — A calendar view of quarterly submission and year-end deadlines across all clients.
- Recent activity — A feed of recent changes across your client accounts, including new transactions, categorisation decisions, and receipt uploads.
- Client health — A summary showing which clients are up to date and which need attention. Green, amber, and red indicators make it easy to prioritise.
Navigation
The portal is organised around your clients:
- Client list — All connected clients, sortable by name, deadline urgency, or last activity.
- Client detail view — Click any client to see their full Accounted dashboard, exactly as they see it (with the access level they've granted you).
- Reports — Generate reports across multiple clients for practice management purposes.
- Settings — Manage your practice details, team members, and billing.
Notifications
You can configure notifications to stay informed without being overwhelmed:
- Per-client alerts — Choose which events you want to be notified about for each client (e.g., only deadlines for some clients, all activity for others).
- Daily digest — Receive a single daily email summarising actions needed across all clients.
- Urgent only — Get notified immediately for critical items (missed deadlines, failed submissions) and everything else in the daily digest.
Practice plans
The accountant portal requires a practice plan subscription. Plans are based on the number of connected clients. See Subscription Plans for details, or contact hello@accounted.co.uk for bespoke arrangements.
