Creating Your Account
Getting started with Accounted
Setting up your Accounted account takes just a few minutes. Here's everything you need to know to get up and running.
What you'll need
Before you begin, have the following to hand:
- A valid email address (this will be your login)
- Your business name (as registered with HMRC, if applicable)
- Your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) — you can add this later if you don't have it yet
- A mobile phone number for WhatsApp integration
Step-by-step registration
- Visit the sign-up page — Head to accounted.app/register and click "Get Started".
- Enter your email and create a password — Choose a strong password with at least 12 characters. We recommend using a password manager.
- Verify your email — We'll send a verification link to your inbox. Click the link to confirm your address. If you don't see it within a couple of minutes, check your spam folder.
- Tell us about your business — Select "Sole Trader" as your business type and enter your business name. You can update this later from your settings.
- Choose your plan — Select from our available plans. Founding members receive 50% off for life, bringing the cost down to just £9.50/month.
Your first steps after signing up
Once your account is created, we recommend completing these steps in order:
- Connect your bank account — This allows Penny, your AI bookkeeper, to automatically import and categorise your transactions. See Connecting Your Bank for details.
- Set up your business details — Add your UTR, VAT number (if registered), and business address. See Setting Up Business Details.
- Connect to WhatsApp — Link your phone number so you can chat with Penny directly. See Setting Up WhatsApp.
- Connect to HMRC — If you need to file under Making Tax Digital, authorise Accounted to submit on your behalf. See Setting Up MTD.
Security from day one
Your account is protected by bank-grade security from the moment you sign up. Sessions automatically expire after 15 minutes of inactivity, and all data is encrypted both in transit and at rest. You can enable two-factor authentication from your account settings for an extra layer of protection.
