Changing Your Plan

Changing your plan

Whether you need to upgrade, downgrade, or switch billing frequency, Accounted makes it simple to manage your subscription.

How to change your plan

  1. Go to Settings > Subscription in your Accounted dashboard.
  2. Click "Manage Subscription" — This opens your subscription management page.
  3. Select your new plan — Choose the plan you'd like to switch to.
  4. Confirm the change — Review the pricing and click "Confirm".

Changes take effect according to the rules below, depending on the type of change.

Upgrading

If you're moving to a higher-tier plan (for example, from the standard sole trader plan to a practice plan because you've started taking on bookkeeping clients), the upgrade takes effect immediately.

  • You'll be charged a prorated amount for the remainder of your current billing cycle.
  • From your next billing date, you'll be charged the full price of your new plan.
  • All new features are available straight away.

Downgrading

If you're moving to a lower-tier plan, the downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle.

  • You'll continue to have access to your current plan's features until the end of the period you've already paid for.
  • From the next billing date, your new (lower) plan and pricing will apply.
  • No refund is issued for the current billing period, as you retain full access until it ends.

Switching billing frequency

If you'd like to switch between monthly and annual billing (when annual billing becomes available), you can do so from the same subscription management page. Annual billing will offer a discount compared to paying monthly.

Founding member pricing

If you're on founding member pricing (50% lifetime discount), your discount is preserved when you change plans within the sole trader tier. The discount applies to the base price of whichever eligible plan you're on.

Important: if you cancel your subscription entirely and later re-subscribe, your founding member discount may not be reinstated. Pausing or changing your plan does not affect your discount — only a full cancellation does.

Practice plan changes

For accountants on practice plans, changing between tiers (Starter, Professional, Enterprise) follows the same upgrade/downgrade rules as above. If you need more than 150 clients, contact us at hello@accounted.co.uk to discuss bespoke pricing.

Billing questions

Your billing history and invoices are available in Settings > Subscription > Billing History. Each invoice shows:

  • The billing period
  • Plan name and price
  • Any prorated charges or credits
  • VAT breakdown
  • Payment method used

If you have any questions about your billing, contact our support team at hello@accounted.co.uk. We aim to respond to billing queries within one business day.

Payment methods

Accounted accepts payment by credit card and debit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express). You can update your payment method at any time from Settings > Subscription > Payment Method.

If a payment fails, we'll retry over the following few days and notify you by email. If payment cannot be collected after multiple attempts, your account will be paused until the payment issue is resolved. Your data is always preserved — we never delete accounts due to payment issues.
