Use this checklist to make sure you are MTD-ready before 6 April 2026.
Before April 2026
- [ ] Confirmed your gross income exceeds £50,000
- [ ] Chosen MTD-compatible software (Accounted is purpose-built for this)
- [ ] Set up your software account and entered your business details
- [ ] Connected your business bank account via Open Banking
- [ ] Signed up for MTD on GOV.UK through the Government Gateway
- [ ] Authorised your software to submit to HMRC
- [ ] Informed your accountant (if you use one)
- [ ] Set up expense categories in your software
- [ ] Practised entering or reviewing a few transactions
From April 2026
- [ ] Digital records being maintained from 6 April
- [ ] Transactions categorised weekly
- [ ] Receipts captured via phone or WhatsApp
- [ ] Calendar reminders set for quarterly deadlines
Quarterly
- [ ] Q1 submitted by 7 August
- [ ] Q2 submitted by 7 November
- [ ] Q3 submitted by 7 February
- [ ] Q4 submitted by 7 May
- [ ] Final declaration submitted by 31 January
